Let’s start from the fact that jeans are versatile.
There are much more options than say, shirts or suits for short men. Finding the right pair of jeans is easier for short guys, than finding the right suit (near impossible)
There are way too many options, and with so many options, it is just shame if you are buying baggy jeans and looking like a clown.
Sorry for being so harsh!
And to top it all, you can always adjust your jeans so they fit your frame. Jeans and pants are crucial part of the wardrobe.
You can wear them on casual occasions, on formal events, and wear them in so many different ways. That being said, it is crucial for a well-dressed man (yes, I’m talking about you shorty) to have at least few pairs of good jeans.
Now, onto some of the style tips for jeans for short men. We are not going to reinvent the wheel.
I will give you few simple rules and guidelines for buying jeans for short men.
Style Tips: Jeans for Short Men
Say no to baggy jeans
This is the first and most important rule. You don’t want to look like a clown.
Baggy jeans = Clown
Don’t think for a second that baggy jeans and pants can make you look bigger. They won’t. When you see the term “relaxed” on the tag, throw those jeans away.
So, what jeans style to choose?
So, since you are not buying baggy jeans, what type of jeans you need to look for? There are few options. I know you might be inclined to go for boot cut jeans, people always talk about them being good fit for shorter guys. But that trend died long ago… like long time ago….and the only time boot cut is advisable is when you are wearing boots. Surprise right?
When it comes to jeans styles, you want the straight, slim fit or skinny fit. Even regular fit works well in some cases, depending on cut.
Depending on your frame. Straight leg or slim fit jeans look best on short men, because they are just right. Not too baggy, and not too tight. Also, forget about the SUPER skinny fit style. They may be too tight for you, depending on your frame.
Typically I would go for skinny fit for some brands. Why? Because some of them aren’t that skinny on me. Here’s a skinny fit jeans from Uniqlo.
What about the rise?
The next big challenge is hitting jackpot with the rise. For those that are confused at the moment, “rise” is actually the distance between the waist and the crotch. I know you want low rise jeans, they are very modern and stylish lately, but they are just not the right fit for you. Length can be easily altered, but rise is constant, and you can’t do much there.

So what rise to pick?
Again. It depends. It depends on your body type, age, etc.
I typically go for medium rise. That’s the safest.
All about the Colors
When I am advising short men on jeans, I always recommend dark wash jeans or black jeans.
The reason is simple, they are way more versatile than light jeans. You can wear dark wash jeans or black jeans anywhere, no matter if it is a sports game, a casual Friday outfit, or to an evening dinner.
Combining dark jeans with light colored shirt gives the illusion of heightening, so that is a bonus.
But don’t ignore light jeans as well, they are great for casual affairs, but you cannot wear them on formal events. And one thing that I cannot stress enough: never ever wear dark wash jeans/pants with light-colored shoes. This will break the line of your leg and you’ll look shorter.
Pants break for jeans
You want to achieve a length where your pants/jeans break only slightly.
Let me explain the term “break” now. The term refers to the area where your pants fall on your shoes. You don’t want the break to come too high, because this way your pants will look shorter.
Walking and standing in that situation will make you look silly, like you are wearing ankle showing pants, but you are not doing it properly.
If the break is too low, on the other hand, there will be too much excess fabric, which will make your pants look oversized. You want a slight or short break. And if you have small feet (which is usually the case with short men), a slight break will help you prevent the pants from drowning your shoes.
In any case, avoid excess material around the ankles.
I recommend Gap (affilate) or Uniqlo for great selection of pants for short men.
Jeans cuff / stacking
Another way to shorten your jeans and pants is by “stacking” or ‘cuffing’ it This is a method and technique many men do lately. The method is perfect when you find jeans that fit you on the waist, but are longer for your inseam. One method, as previously said is to hem your jeans. Another method would be stacking of cuffing.
So, what is stacking? It is a method when you push the leg of the jeans up, and then allow the jeans to slide naturally back. In other words, folding the bottom of the jeans. Now, stacking is recommended only in certain and specific situations and it depends mostly on the shoes you are wearing.
Here’s an example of what it looks like when you’re stacking jeans. It works really well if it’s a skinny fit pants.
Cuffing means you’re simply folding it. For me. I tend to go with stacking. That’s just my personal taste. I do however like to cuff my pants sometimes.
